Pakalolo
Pakalolo is a tiki and vinyl bar down Ari Soi 4 North, named after the Hawaiian word for the plant and decorated to match: a bamboo-fronted counter under a pitched wooden roof, carved Polynesian masks, banana-leaf print and a wall of records. The lighting runs red and purple after dark and the bartenders work in Hawaiian shirts. The drinks are original tiki builds rather than the standard canon, the house list running through names like Pakalolo Tiki Bowl, Aloha, Lilia, Bamboo and Kuwo, with a full mocktail and smoothie section alongside, and the records supply the soundtrack, mostly eighties and nineties. It is a small room, which reviewers count as a feature, and one of the few bars in Ari that runs until two in the morning. Closed on Tuesdays.
