Bar Sathorn is an elegant, story-driven cocktail lounge set inside The House on Sathorn, a neoclassical mansion built in 1889 that anchors the W Bangkok complex on North Sathorn Road. The heritage building has lived many lives, having served as the private residence of nobleman Luang Sathorn Rajayukta, then the luxurious Hotel Royal under Italian proprietress Madame Adele Staro (1923-1926), and Thailand's first Soviet Embassy from 1948 to 1999, before AvroKO's restoration reopened it as a dining and drinking destination. Formerly known as The Bar at The House on Sathorn, the venue trades on that layered past: dark teak wood panelling, Corinthian plasterwork columns, coffered ceilings, plush leather seating and gilded, emerald-toned rooms create a refined, residential atmosphere more like a grand private home than a public bar. Led by Milan-born bar manager Marco Dognini, the menu of roughly 16 signature cocktails is structured as a narrative divided into four eras of the mansion's history, each drink paying homage to the building's story while championing distinctively Thai ingredients, sustainability and cross-cultural exchange. Standout serves include the Bangkok Brunch (pad krapow-infused tequila, Thai basil and salted tomato water), the Reinvented Bullshot served hot with tom kha broth as a nod to the Soviet years, and an ultra-premium page of Louis XIII cognac cocktails. Sustainability runs through the program, with herbs and produce grown on W Bangkok's organic rooftop farm. The bar debuted at No. 48 on Asia's 50 Best Bars in 2025 (its first-ever listing) and climbed to No. 17 on Asia's 50 Best Bars 2026, where it also won the Nikka Highest Climber Award. Smart-casual and reservation-friendly, it draws cocktail enthusiasts, date-night couples and well-heeled locals and hotel guests, with a relaxed vinyl DJ set on Sundays.
