Bar Lookkrung Ari

Bar Lookkrung is built around luk krung, the orchestral Thai popular song of the mid-twentieth century, and it is one of very few rooms in Bangkok that programmes it live. The bar sits on Ari Samphan behind a brick front with tall arched windows and heavy red curtains, an antique wooden cabinet of bottles behind the counter and a red neon sign of the house rabbit over the door. Bands play from eight in the evening, Wednesday through Sunday, singers working the standards with a small ensemble and sometimes Thai percussion in the line-up. The drinks list is the other half of the idea: cocktails built on Thai regional spirits, sold by the glass and as a three-glass Thai Spirits Flight with a curated pairing. Classic cocktails run buy-two-get-one between half past five and half past seven. Reviewers rate it 4.9 and single out the bartenders and the atmosphere; typical spend is 400 to 600 baht a head, and there is parking.
