Mustache Reopens After 43 Days Dark, and Nobody Really Explained Why

Mustache reopens on Saturday 29 August, 43 days after its last regular night on Decho Road in Silom.

The club said why exactly once. Not on Instagram, where 21,000 people would have read it, and not on its own site. The explanation appeared in a single event listing for the takeover weekend that replaced its cancelled club nights:

"Mustache Club will be closed this weekend while we complete the final renovation work required by the authorities."

That is the whole public account.

What is known, and what is not

The promoter behind Subwerk, the club on the third floor of the same building, also described its original location as being under renovation, and said it expected to reopen in the first week of September.

Neither operator has said what the work involved, or which authority requested it. No enforcement action against either club has been announced or reported.

We are stating that plainly because the gap matters: a 43-day closure at two clubs in one building, explained in one sentence in one event listing, is the kind of thing the scene fills in with rumour.

It was never just Mustache

The Decho Road building has housed two clubs on two floors since January, with one entrance giving access to both. By late July, both rooms were dark.

Subwerk continued with events at the former Berlin Bangkok space in Donki Mall. Mustache resurfaced for a two-night Amber rooftop takeover on 24 and 25 July.

The reopening night

Four residents are on the bill: Anchun, Berry, Nasati and Fernisa. Three of them also played the Amber takeover.

What happens next

Subwerk follows upstairs on 4 September with a bigger layout, a new stage and new lighting. From 5 September, both floors are back.

That is the part worth putting in the calendar. One entrance, two clubs, two different rooms - the Decho Road building working the way it did before July is a better night than either floor on its own.
