Eagle Nest is an intimate rooftop bar perched on the 5th floor of the boutique Sala Rattanakosin hotel in Bangkok's historic Old City, directly on the Chao Phraya River. Its greatest asset is the view: a near-perfect vantage across the water to the illuminated spires of Wat Arun, with Wat Pho and Wat Phra Kaeo close behind. The bar is small and unpretentious, with just a few tables and a compact bar, no loud music and no flashy design, just a peaceful breeze off the river. It serves cocktails, beer and wine in a relaxed, tranquil setting that is especially magical at sunset and after dark when the temple is lit. The crowd is a mellow mix of hotel guests, temple-hopping travellers and couples chasing one of the city's best riverside sunsets. Because the space is tiny and hugely popular, arriving early (around 5 pm) is the best way to secure a table for sunset. The nearest station is MRT Sanam Chai, about 400 metres away.
We add venues every month, but Bangkok moves fast. If a Rattanakosin venue you love isn't listed yet, send it our way - owner or regular, both welcome. We check every suggestion by hand.
